Wolf Alice : Mandela Hall, Belfast

2 mins read

North London based ‘Wolf Alice’ played a sold out Mandela Hall (Belfast) on the first night of their tour. Wolf Alice was named one of Billboard Magazine’s Artists to Watch in 2015, as well as one of Rolling Stone’s 10 New Artists You Need to Know in the October 2015 issue.

The band was also shortlisted for the prestigious 2015 Mercury Prize, received a 2016 Brit Award Nomination for British Breakthrough Act, and a 2016 GRAMMY Award Nomination for Best Rock Performance of “Moaning Lisa Smile”. Poised to return to the U.S. at the conclusion of their U.K. tour this winter, there seems to be no stopping this electrifying four piece.

Supported by ‘Spies’ Wolf Alice treated the packed Belfast audience to a remarkable set. The Wolf Alice sound is exceptional live with the individual talents of Ellie Rowsell, Joel, Joff & Theo shine through with multi-layered guitars and vocal combining to spine tingling effect. Wolf Alice are a spectacular band who take their music to the next level in their live performance, if you get the chance to see them live, take it!

Camera Set Up : X-Pro2

Shooting the gig with the Fujifilm X-Pro2 and the 16-55mm f/2.8 lens I started with high speed shooting but returned to single shot mode realising I didn’t need that level of shooting power in this particular venue. Using spot metering the auto white balance remains remarkable accurate in the ever changing lighting environment of a live gig and auto focus remained true throughout.

This post features just a few samples from the night but I will have a few more on display during my ‘hands-on’ presentation at the 2016 Photography Show.

In the meantime head over the Wolf Alice website and check out a band you are going to see considerably more of at music awards in the next few years.
