Doan Mountain in the heart of the central Mournes sees a hike through some pretty soft ground so it can be messy at times but the views are definitely worth it. The total walk is about 7km and an elevation of just under 600m.
Getting out into the Mournes during the winter months can be a challenge given the dramatic reduction in daylight hours. Fortunately an early morning start allowed for a family climb up Doan Mountain.
A hike to the top of Doan Mountain. We took the recommended trek from Ott carpark through to the Mourne wall and then over the softer ground on to Doan, the paths are somewhat limited at times so we were reliant on our directions and the ViewRanger app to get us to the top.
