Having decided a full month of black and white photography laid ahead a trip to the beach wasn’t ever going to offer the best black and white photographic opportunities. It was interesting to see how stunning colour and haze dissolved under heavy mono processing.
In many ways the beach is no longer the focal point on the photos but your eye is raised to the cloud filled sky. Even at full afternoon sun the black and white processing creates a dramatic effect.
All of the photographs are shot with the EF17-40 but locked wide at 17mm. The lens vignette creates a darkness that is even more pronounced with the colour removed.
The reflection of the sky on the surface of the sand is a little lost but you can see just how clear and free the beach was which isn’t a surprise given the gale force winds.
If you are wondering about the title of the post, I have borrowed it from the epic Joe Satriani song!
