The snow, apparently the worst in over twenty five years has raised a number of photographic issues and opportunities. From stunning photogenic landscapes to the frustrating fact that my main lens is stuck in England due to a number of airports being closed. For this reason I am left I with experimenting solely with a 50mm lens (nifty fifty) for literally every type of shot. I passed Hillsborough Parish Church at lunch time and again at around 5pm. The atmosphere differed considerably on each visit yet the 50mm at f1.4 was able to cope remarkably well given this is a considerable landscape. It should be noted that the larger image (above) has been cropped to fit the website. Check out flickr for the full size image. I am genuinely surprised how well the 50mm performed at lower apertures in a landscape type setting. I am not even sure I would have needed to go much wider than this given some of the buildings that would have ended up in the frame. A Canon 50mm lens should be in everyones bag. A few more can be found on flickr.
