Lalor Roddy is no stranger to our television and film screens. An actor of renowned talent he has appeared in an array of film and television programmes from ‘The Game of Thrones’, ‘Ripper Street’ right through to the incredible Steve McQueen film ‘Hunger’ and Oscar winning ‘The Shore’.

Lalor Roddy’s IMDB list is a phenomenal testament of his ability as a screen actor yet his true love is the theatre where he holds equal respect and adoration amongst critics.

Even Gods

I first met Lalor on the set of Phil Harrison’s short film ‘Even Gods’ where I was shooting stills. Even Gods was released in 2010 and since then Phil has released his first feature length movie ‘The Good Man’ again featuring Lalor Roddy. If you get a chance to see ‘The Good Man’ I can highly recommend it both as a piece of film and a challenging narrative.

The film and television industry in Northern Ireland is world-renowned and the country is often the first choice for the major distribution companies for a location to make their movies.

Lalor generously gave of his time to partake in a Q&A session with representatives from Northern Ireland Screen and The British Film Institute. The Q&A focused on the development of film education in Northern Ireland and I couldn’t help but grab a few shots as Lalor offered his advice to the next generation of actor and filmmakers.

It is amazing how much time and budget both Northern Ireland Screen and BFI invest in developing student filmmakers hoping to embark in a career in the television and film industries. Long may it last.
