I have passed this house everyday for the last ten years and over the last few months have watched it quickly disintegrate due to both the weather and vandalism.
As I had my camera out this morning to capture the view across the hedge (almost a series) I finally decided to stop and take a few photographs as I would be surprised if this building will be here for much longer.
It is strange to look through the windows of the house and still see the original wall hangings and coat hangers. It is also shocking to see the amount of vandalism that has taken place in what was actually used to be someone’s home.
The net curtains still hang behind the shattered glass, the light (above) is the only piece of glass that has yet to be smashed. Someone has gone to a serious amount of effort to destroy every window and smash up the interior.
All that remains is the shell of a house, wrecked, destroyed and eerily lonely. I would love to know the history, who lived here and how did the house end up like this ?
I have been wanting to photograph this building for a few years now and I just wonder how many more years this building will be here. There is one additional window portrait sized photo on flickr.
Looking at your photos makes me think of all that might have gone on within the walls, the passing of time & how someone might have loved the life there. It’s one thing when nature takes over an abandoned home but the vandalism makes it all so much more sad… It’s nice you took the time to photograph it, give it a little more life.
I love this series of photos. They seem to tell the same story as your words.
Great set of pictures. Love the one of the window in particular. Good to take pics like these - as you say, it probably won’t be there soon.
