A Dozen Doors of University Square

I walked down University Square nearly every (term time) day in the early 1990s and today, for the first time in ages I parked in the street while meeting Phil Harrison of The Good Man fame. The street really hasn’t changed very much other than it is now is the home of the Queen’s Film Theatre (QFT).

I decided I would try and snap as many doors on the way up the street as I could without actually stopping. The trusty X-Pro1 with the 35mm lens locked at f/2 and a non stop walk and shoot.

I managed a meagre 13 photos that actually included the whole door roughly in the centre of the frame. You might spot there are only 12 doors here but the 13th is included on flickr as I wanted to keep the page format correct.

It would a great place to photograph correctly taking to time to ensure each door is framed in exactly the same way but then that takes time.

I think the entire street is now owned by Queen’s University whose library I lived in for a few months at the end of each academic year, not that made much difference.

If this is not the case and I have inadvertently snapped your door and you would like it removed please let me know.

Queen’s University and University Square remain a remarkable area. As I made my way back to my car two large bus loads of people jumped out to take photos of the Lanyon Building and the houses along University Square. This definitely didn’t happen in 1992.

The full set is available on flickr.
