Castlewellan Bonus

Some days don’t work out quite like you planned and at times that can be a bonus. Today I was able to grab some time in Castlewellan with my newly returned EF17-40 and the X100. I’ve decided the X100 is a great bring along camera even when shooting with the DSLR.

These long exposure photos were captured at 30 second exposures which really wasn’t quite enough with the ND10 filter. I have now decided I need to remote for the 5DMKII but on pricing can confirm 30 seconds is as good as it is going to get for quite some time.

Given just how dense the ND10 filter is I was focusing the shot, switching the lens to manual focus, adding the filter and taking the photo. This processed was a rushed in a spare ten minutes at lunch.

There are a few more photos on flickr including photos taken with the X100. I am still struggling to learn how to use this camera. There was a stack of light this morning and the camera was struggling to get the exposure right with many of the shots being very dark.

I also found it difficult to make out the picture on the LCD or the EVF with the amount of ambient light. I guess it is all part of the learning process.
