Last night I had the opportunity to develop my music photography skills by covering Ben Glover’s ‘Through the Noise’ album launch. The photos are all shot in full manual mode and with only being able to photograph during the first three songs it was great to work under pressure.

The night was opened by the amazing Gentry Morris, a quiet, unassuming artist with particular skill, his unbelievable voice silencing the audience from the outset. Gentry who hales from Georgia has previously worked with the likes of Juliet Turner played a selection of songs from his upcoming ‘Awake O Sleeper’ album release. If you haven’t heard of Gentry then you really need to check out www.gentrymorris.com or connect with him directly on Facebook.
Next to the stage was Ben Glover back home from Nashville to launch his latest album to a home audience. Ben Glover is originally from the County Antrim village of Glenarm and he has been writing songs since he was a teenager. He graduated in law at Queens University Belfast before he decided to put his legal ambitions on hold to pursue a career in music.

Back in 2008 Ben released his debut album The Week The Clocks Changed. That record was produced by J.D. Foster and featured guest appearances by the likes of Vince Gill, Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale. Ben also released two singles that enjoyed UK national airplay on BBC Radio 2 – as well as an invitation to play a live session on Janice Long’s Radio 2 show.
I have been listening to ‘Through the Noise’ this week and love it. When you are based in Nashville working with the likes of Vince Gill it is easy to expect an album with a country edge but to be honest it is particularly evident, this isn’t a country album but a really special collection of melodic contemporary songs each telling their own individual story.

Gentry and Ben are in amongst a small group of artists (I include Eilidh Patterson here) that are just as good (if not better live) than their album. It was a great gig, additional vocals were provided by the amazing Elaine Murphy and the band were amazing tight given they had actually be rehearsing cross atlantic via the internet using Skype !!

Ben’s new album is available via www.benglover.co.uk or Amazon and I can genuinely recommend it. You can also connect with Ben via Facebook here.
