Find The River

Find The River

December 23, 2009  |  Landscapes  |  , ,

Despite being late for an appointment I had to stop and take a few photographs of the fog along the river Lagan this morning. The mix of snow and fog created a very desolate view, cold, barren and even slightly eerie.

The Lagan can be seen in the foreground with the famous Maze Race Course running along in the background. What I like about the photo is the fact I seem to be able to see further into the distance on a fog filled morning than on a day with perfect visibility.

I have so much to learn about aperture, lens and how and when to use them. This photo was taken with a 15-38 f3.5-5.6 with the best photo quality being at the lower aperture end for some reason.

I am beginning to think this isn’t really a general purpose lens but one more geared for landscapes, perhaps the pros could offer an insight. This lens does give spectacular detail to landscape photographs although it takes more than a passing glance to see it.

I have put two more photos from this morning on to flickr, two more as I actually only took three. The first is a little warmer than the photo above and the second is a close up photo of the snow rather than a traditional landscape.

Anyway, all critique very welcome.

  1. Beautiful image. It is like a short story in a photograph. I love that about images. There is context and subtext and tension and release. Would be amazing framed large.

  2. These images are breathtaking–such beauty in the flat horizon.

  3. Remember that, with wide angle lenses, such as your 15-38 mm (assuming that you are shooting FX format), your choice of aperture will not affect the depth of field very much. If your camera is DX format, a little more with this lens but not as much as with a tele lens.

  4. Loving the Lens flare…

    Great pic
