The Long Exposure eBook
Every week I receive two to three emails asking about the best way to capture long exposure landscape images and so I’ve decided to create a guide to creating ‘The Long Exposure’ landscape. I have aptly entitled it “The Long Exposure Photography eBook” and it gives a complete beginners guide on getting started with capturing long exposure images. The eBook also comes with six custom Lightroom 4 presets that I use in my long exposure processing. All the long exposure photographs contained in the eBook are captured with the X-Pro1.
The Long Exposure Photography eBook
Long exposure photography is about capturing space and silence, like visually holding your breath; it is about capturing the beauty and calmness of a scene.

The aim of this e-book is to offer an introduction to the process of capturing long exposure photographs. It documents the simple steps I employ each time I embark on a long exposure photo shoot.
The eBook covers everything from the equipment you will need right through to post- production processing in Adobe’s brilliant Lightroom 4. This guide has been written with the beginner to the long exposure process in mind; however, the enthusiast and professional alike may find something of relevance also.
The know-how in this book will enable you to capture stunning long exposure images on even the simplest of camera set-ups.
This eBook should be the start on your long exposure journey, and all it takes is a camera, tripod, Neutral Density (ND) filter and patience. Once you have understood the basics, you will be able to develop your style and create dramatic long exposure landscape images.
The Long Exposure Photography eBook covers everything from priorities and equipment right through to a step by step guide to capturing long exposure images.
The eBook comes in PDF format that is readable on most computers, tablets and eBook readers.

As well as the 33 page ebook the package contains six Adobe Lightroom 4 presets to get you started with long exposure post production.

The presets include :

Hi FlixelPix !
Just bought myself one copy. Going to dig the essentials and try to capture new log-exposed CherryPics with lessons learned.
Cheers!
Great book, well done.
Great introduction to Long Exposure photography in easy to understand language, good examples of the techniques and some LR presets thrown in for good measure.
Fantastic value and should be on the list of anyone wanting to get started with long exposure photography. I used the techniques and presets on some shots I took this morning so that’s as good a recommendation as I can think of!
I bought the eBook and I think it was well worth it for the tips on how to go out and take those long exposures. With the added presets, it’s a double bargain.
Purchased the eBook and presets last week, Awesome!!! Thanks so much. The content of the eBook really hits the mark.
A few questions:
How many pages is the book?
Any chance these preset will work in Aperture?
Thanks
Shon, it is 32 pages, the presets won’t work with Aperture I am afraid. You should check out the 30 day demo of Lightroom?
The book is well written, easy to understand, the pictures are wonderful. Best 5$ spend this year. The ND filter is ordered and I can’t wait to play with long exposures !
Absolutely fantastic book great for even an experienced photographer looking to make a start with long exposure images!
Thank you David, bought a copy for myself, can’t wait to read it
Well wedding season is over, I have just purchased your e book, joined the flickr group and I am looking forward to photographing something other then people.
Always wanted to figure out long exposures and you had me hooked with your fabulous work. Can’t wait to dig into the book and break out the tripod. I guess an nd filter is in the works too.
I brought the ebook, it was amazing, easy to understand, very well written. I am using LR 3.3. Do these presets work on my LR?
Yes, they should work fine, you might need to tweak different controls but the principles are the same.
I was curious about this book as I’ve already have long exposure experience.
At $3,50 it’s a steal!
Hey David, i have been following you just recently and am looking to buy the Fuji x100s. I currently have a now very dated Epl1. I am keen on long exposure but what is the best nd filter to use with the x100s ? I was thinking either the hoya nd400 (9 stop) or the b+w nd110 (10 stop). Which would be better as i hear colour casting with the b+w especially if i choose not to edit and leave it in beautiful fuji jpegs. I will also purchase ur e-book .
Thanks
I love the B+W Filters but a 49mm ND110 is hard to find?
Hey,
plus its easier anyways with this size also for a hood
Any chance there will be an online offer for the ebook ? I look forward to more pictures and insights from you !!! Also if i have any qs regarding anything, which is the best way to contact you ? Here or fcb ?
I will get the 52mm one as i found a 52 mm adapter
Cheers
I notice filters are needed. How relevant will you book be with my soon to arrive pre-ordered Fuji X100s please?
Spencer, it isn’t camera specific but about a technique of capturing long exposure images. A filter just makes it easier.
