Lough Neagh Fog

I have decided to break up the Hilden Mill urban decay series with a trip out for landscape photography. I have seen a few photos of decaying jetties on flickr and decided it was time to experiment with slightly longer exposures.

The jetties featured in this series are situated within the surroundings of Oxford Island a National Nature Reserve and today offered the additional challenge of thick fog resting across the Lough resulting in almost a complete absence of colour.

The fog brought with it a stillness that made making the water appear smooth a little easier.  I really didn’t have to adjust the shutter speed very much to create  a mirror like lough but the fog meant some areas of the frame ended up over exposed.

There is also very little post production in these photos. With the already low amount of colour saturation I encouraged the black and white and removed a small buoy from one of the photos.

A few additional photos of the area are available in the flickr set.
