Exploring Product Photography

Exploring Product Photography

October 29, 2009  |  ,  |

I have been exploring the realm of product photography this week and it has definitely posed a few interesting challenges in terms of both lighting and detail. I have been writing reviews on three new hardware products this week, not for financial gain but basically a quick way to sample the very latest hardware releases for Mac, photography and guitar.

The negative of playing with new technology is that I generally end up buying the products as soon as they are released. Although this photo doesn’t offer the same creative context I thought I would post it anyway to see what others thought.

Product photography is definitely more difficult than I expected and I am very aware product makers aren’t really going to want reviews featuring unattractive photographs.

One new item of hardware to the UK photo market I managed to get my hands on for a few days is the brilliant Eye-Fi SD cards with wifi access. They offer the ability to take a photo and have it immediately (if you have network connectivity) sent to your computer or favourite photo sharing website. You can read more about the cards here.

  1. Wow, that card is a tempting little piece of technology in a controlled setting shoot!

Like the shot about. Nice DOF color and feel. Static lighting or strobes?

    Cheers,

    P.

  2. I actually used the light from my computer screen believe it or not :)
